Do you think that Braque is right? Is art made to disturb?
Banksy once quoted Cesar A. Cruz, I believe, with his comment on art:
“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
This statement is interesting to think about because I am sure that even the “disturbed” are disturbed by something. And that something will most likely have found itself expressed in art. I know what Banksy was implying with this quote, but – seriously – what does “disturbed” really mean here? Just how disturbed should we be getting? And what will it change? Who benefits?
